Valkenburg: hotels and more...
Valkenburg aan de Geul is one of the most enchanting places of the Netherlands, the so called Marlstone Town in the province of Limburg, near to the borders of Belgium and Germany.
Valkenburg has a long tradition as a tourist town. There are several attractions within walking distance of the city centre of Valkenburg. This town has many attractions, like the Valkenburg Holland Casino, the Sint-Gerlachus church and the former marl quarries. As a result of marlstone quarrying there is now a network of underground corridors that, these days, is over 250 km long. Most of the caves in Valkenburg are accessible to wheel chair users.
The present aim of Valkenburg is to move from mass-tourism for which it was famous during the seventies and eighties towards the attraction of the more elaborated tourist, who exhibits a more quiet and relaxed behaviour. Therefore, many new hotels have been built in Valkenburg.
